From ahuacate to avocado

Howard Yoon tells the story of U.S. avocado production and consumption in this NPR piece. Interestingly, the term avocado was created by enterprising US farmers who considered the Aztec name, ahuacate, too hard to pronounce and rather unappetizing (it translates to testicle).
